We started reading Barnyard Dance! by Sandra Boynton, jumping around and doing everything it says in the book, which was fun. Then E narrated "It Could Always Be Worse" from the Hirsch book, and I read some more sections from Platt's _Egyptian Diary_,which they both enjoy a lot. Then I read Hear Your Heart and A Drop of Blood both by Paul Showers. E did her math while T watched Peep and then I gave them each a picture of a heart to color while I fixed lunch. After lunch we went to Pump It Up in Trussville and they had a good time bouncing and sliding. E made a new friend, Jill. I had E read Gail Gibbons' Spiders aloud to T on the way there.

This morning we had to go do our grocery shopping, as I wasn't able to yesterday, due to the party. Jen: "You can make it an educational experience!" Me: "I just want to get the shopping done!" So it wasn't educational. Then home for recess at G's house and lunch, then fortunately for me to not have a total waste of a day, the Early Simple Machines II kit arrived from Lego. As I was sorting through, counting pieces to make sure it was all there, E came in and asked about it. I told her it was a new toy for her and T to make machines and cool things with. I said "You can play with it until it's time to go to your dance class" She said, "What about school?" I said "This is school today." E: "Wow. It sure doesn't look like school." Me: "That's kind of the point"

So there you have it, a little socialization, a little engineering, and some dance and tumbling. Whew!

no school today

Today we had to take Nemo in for his yearly checkup, and then rushed to Oak Mountain for the "No School Zone" party that our cover school was throwing. We made it in really good time. I didn't meet as many of the other moms as I would have liked because I had to be in the water with Tuck and they mostly stayed on shore, but I met a few who seemed nice. Also Jen was there and I met her friend Katie. Tuck mostly stayed by me, but Emma made a new little friend, Rebecca, and had fun with Georgia, of course. Then home for a nap--somehow baking in that sun really takes it out of me. While we were driving home it occurred to Emma "Mom! We didn't do Geography and Math!" So I explained to her that Wednesdays were going to be our usual field trip/fun days, since they are her piano lesson days so the morning schedule is thrown off anyway.

She was talking about her school friends today, chattering on about how she was going to invite Hannah and Dalton and Olivia and Christopher to a Halloween party--I didn't say anything but privately hoping that she will meet enough new friends to forget the old...
